When I was about 5, I believed in a monster outside who made the windows rattle in the wind. Now I understand that there is wind, and there are windows that are loose and rattle, and there is the human tendency to try and coalesce a body of facts into something much more adverse sounding than the conditions actually create.

A virc is something hypothesized to exist. It is made out of lego and they are not sure how it fits together but they have what they consider to be the most likely patterns, derived by consensus. They think it looks like a castle, but it could be a cabin. Labs around the world have found different ways of assembling it, there are millions of variants.

Even though no one has seen one, they are sure it exists, because we have all these pieces. It is a virtual creation 🦄

Nor have we "purified" the Tooth Fairy, which doesn't keep millions of children around the world from ardently believing in it.
