The term quack originates from quacksalver, or kwakzalver, a Dutch word for a seller of nostrums, medical cures of dubious and secretive origins. (Nostrums were the over-the-counter medications of the early modern world, available without a doctor's prescription and taken at one's own risk.)

• Many regional health ‘authorities’ were offering incentives of free beer, donuts, cash prizes, $100 debit cards, some free marijuana and even a visit to a prostitute. • As far as I know, people do not pay out of their own pocket for childhood quackcines or Covid quackcines, the government pays (at least in Canada). Travel quackcines may or may not be out of pocket costs

• As in the above clip, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. explains that the product was failing in the marketplace as long as liability was the responsibility of the manufacturer. The manufacturers told the Reagan government that without removing liability for harm and death, they did not have a business case to continue making them as they were paying $20 in downstream liability for each $1 in profit. That is a swift path to bankruptcy.
